I’m One of the muses, A common wood nymph roaming around Parnassus, Happy with my little sweet pea. With her delicate, fragrant flowers Carried on long, slim stalks, She captivated me. I ran to her flaming with desire. I am flaming. Burning Blazing with desire. Too hot for my sweet pea. Because she’s so delicate, So delicate for me. As I touch her, she transformed into ashes. I burnt her. And out of a haze, you were formed. Like smoke given out by fire. A fireweed that sprang up in the burnt over area. A replacement, I thought. You quenched my thirst. Suffuse my hunger. My desire. I came to you for a crown And you gave me a kingdom. You made me eat on a golden plate And drink from your cup of diamonds. But like a common pitcher plant, Cut your base open And there you’ll find my body’s remains trapped inside. A pitfall in the middle of the forest. I will name you Venus? The goddess with a seducing brilliant red trap. Open to all beings that needs nurturing. Show your bosom and all will crave for your milk. From a butterfly, you turned me to an ant. When I brushed only slightly against your skin, You closed within an instant. Rigid spines on the margins of you blades interlock tightly. As soon as I was trapped, You digested me. Used me as a nutrient material. I know this is about to last for only a week. By the time your leaf reopens, You’ll be reedy for other sufferers. Trapped inside, I accepted my fate. Then there she came one spring day. My little delicate sweet pea. Now a spring beauty in full bloom. A low perennial herb. With narrow, succulent leaves And loose cluster of white and pink flowers. But your leaf has closed. I cannot escape.

Chapter 7: Death Blooms

8/16/2008

Yey! Goodnews!! I retrieved my other files!!! Ahahaha. So yeah... I'll just edit it and I'll try to posst faster. I'm making a new series fic... And it's a Reina-Eri thing...Wuhhu!!!XDMaki and Miki looked at each other rather confused at first. It was Maki who answered Hitomi’s question. “Maybe yes, maybe no. That’s the only information we’ve seen so far, plus grandma’s story… We can’t finalize it yet.”“So I guess we still need to do more researches about that princess eh?”The school decided to reschedule the ‘supposed’ wake ceremony that morning due to the bad weather. The ceremony will be held at around three in the afternoon so the four decided to meet up again in the library first. Miki and Risa scanned the books from the History section while Hitomi and Maki looked in the General Information section. They tried to look for something they still weren’t sure about. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack. Miki grew tired and closed the thick history book that she was reading.“This is boring. I’m going out first.” Miki didn’t wait for her companions’ answer and went out of the library. She went to the bathroom first before going to the canteen. She bought herself a nice cold ‘Purin’ and a can of soda. She sat at the bench and ate silently. “I wonder what they are doing right now? They must have an idea of what they want to find out. It’s impossible to locate something if you don’t know what you are searching for in the first place.” Suddenly, Miki remembered something. She quickly gobbled up the remaining pudding and gulped the soda. She ran towards the library. She almost stumbled down the hallway when her foot was caught in the last step of the stairs. She opened the door to the library and went directly to the fiction area.Hitomi and the others where silently reading some books on a table when suddenly, Miki appeared in front of the entrance.“I thought that your sister’s fed up with reading?” Risa asked Maki. Maki just shrugged her shoulders and watched how her sister hastily walked towards the ‘fiction’ aisle. They saw how Miki scanned thoroughly each book as if looking for a specific one. “Where was it? I know I saw it here before…” Miki scrutinized each book in the shelf. Most of the books were dusty and old but she didn’t mind. She was searching for an old reddish book she saw two days ago. And then a divine intervention happened. She noticed a yellow book on top of the shelf which was not put back properly. She tried to push it but it seemed that something was blocking its way. Miki got a small chair at the end of the shelf and stood up on it. She saw a small reddish book, the one she’s been looking for, hidden inside the shelf. She got it and replaced it with the yellow book. She opened it and skimmed through its pages. “My hunch was right. It’s a shaman’s book.” …………………“What is that?” Maki whispered as Miki went to their table and sat with them.“Remember the book I told you when we were in the wake ceremony of Sayu and the others? Well, this is it.” Miki showed them the small red book she got, in the ‘fiction’ area. “I knew from the first time that I saw it that it’s ‘your’ kind of ‘book’.” Hitomi laughed when Miki stressed out the word ‘your’ and ‘book’ to her best friend but she tried to suppress it when the librarian looked their way and gave her an evil stare. “You got this from the ‘Fiction’ area? This may be an old fiction about a shaman or something. It may not be significant at all.” Risa commented. She flipped each pages without looking at its contents thoroughly. She passed it to Hitomi.“It looks like a journal.”“A fiction book written in a ‘diary-like’ format. Geez, we must find something concrete. Let’s continue to look at the ‘History’ section rather than the story-teller’s area.” Miki glared at Risa. If they were only anime characters, there would be a lightning volt in between their eyes to show how intense their glares were.“Stop it you two… I’ll just borrow this home and let’s continue to read something until the ceremony starts.” Maki stood up, took the book from Miki’s hand and went towards the librarian. Maki pulled out her library card from her wallet and gave it to the librarian. The librarian took it and wrote something before putting her signature and returned it to Maki.………………..The ceremony started on time. Nothing unusual happened in the ceremony. The teachers were just giving some talks about Konno. The highlight of it was when Yaguchi-sensei couldn’t talk properly. She was sniffing and wiping away the tears from her eyes. Their vice-principal was busy consoling her after her talk and giving her respect to her dead favourite student. Each student was to put a white rose on Konno’s picture in the set-up altar. It was Hitomi and Maki’s turn. They put their roses, prayed a little and went back to their line. After the ceremony was finished, they were met up by Risa.“Where’s Miki?”……………..“Damn zombies! I’m going to kill you!!!” Miki yelled as she pressed the buttons wildly. Her character swung her short but sharp ninja weapon, killing any zombie woman that blocks her way. It was already thirty minutes pass three. She sneaked out of their line even before going they were out in the field. She made sure that the coast was clear before going inside the computer room in the 4th floor. She opened the computer where she saved her game to continue playing it while the others were busy in the ceremony. She will only have less than an hour to try and analyze the game.  “Ok… a little recap. The objective of this game is to find out the life of Eri and her relationship to the killings. And we must not get killed or else, get killed in real life… I suppose. And then, there’s this Eri-Hime told by grandma that drinks blood from.. children? Or grown up girls? Need to clarify that one.” Miki continued exploring the shrine that they went to last night. She went to the back of the shrine. She saw something glistening on the ground. She went over it and picked it up. It was a hand held mirror that was used during the 16th century. She saw the reflection of her character’s face and some of the shrine’s reflection. Miki saw a shadowy figure on the top of the shrine before the glass of the mirror, shattered.”Oh, yeah. I forgot that who ever that shadowy figure is, it doesn’t like mirrors.” Miki pressed a button accidentally and the character flipped the mirror, revealing a polished silver back. She can still see the figure vaguely and a pack of wolves behind her, ready to jump at her.“Miki what are you doing?!” Maki shouted at her sister. Miki quickly pressed the pause button. Maki went towards her to deliver a smack on her head. “What if the teachers find out that you’re using this room? They might expel you!”“They didn’t catch me, so it’s still alright. You don’t have to be so cranky about it.” Miki replied and saved her game. “And besides, I learned something. If you flipped a hand held mirror, its back is made out from polished silver which still acts like a mirror… only that its reflection’s a little dull. You might want to apply some polishing cream.” Miki joked as she turned off the computer. Hitomi peeped inside the computer room.“If you guys will just argue about that, try to fight someplace else and not here because, I can see some students going up in this direction.” Maki and Miki looked at each other and ran towards the door. Miki locked the room before going out. They acted as if nothing happened. They laughed out loud and pretended that they were talking about a funny movie when five students passed by them.……………“You know, that shrine has a hidden door going to the tower. I saw the figure in the reflection. We must go there and investigate.” Miki told her sister when they approached their gate. She remembered it because of the shadow produce by her mom on their veranda.“After your little stunt during the wake, I think as a precaution, we’ll just go there next time. Or, just install the game in your laptop. So you can play it anywhere, anytime.” Maki suggested. She got the keys and pushed it in the keyhole. When they entered, their mom met them on the base of the stairs.“Why are you late? You didn’t even mail me. Your principal called this afternoon. She was asking about the behaviour of the two of you these past days.” Miki and Maki became nervous when their mom mentioned that their principal called. Maki took the courage to ask what their mom said to their principal.“We went to a friend’s house. She wanted to show us her collection of anime DVD’s and computer games. What did you say to principal Iida?”“I just told her that you’re acting pretty normal to me. You didn’t change quite a bit and I asked her if there’s something wrong with the two of you. She just said to moderate you’re gaming habits and to study harder… I think that’s all that she said.” The two let out a sigh of relief. They were glad that their parents were always sleeping early and that they would just sneak out of their house. If their mom learned the truth, she might have told it to their nosy principal.“So, no more playing of computer games from Sunday to Thursday. And on Friday and Saturday, you’ll only have four hours of playing time... and that’s final.”“KA~SAN!!!!” “Damn that principal. Now how would I finish my adventure mode in ‘Soul Calibur II’? Mom confiscated our PS2, my PSP and Gameboy… How would I live without them!!!” Miki put her face on a pillow and screamed her lungs out. Maki got another pillow and used it to hit Miki.“Baka! There’s still your laptop and our computer. You could just surf the net or play on-line games. Mom would never know.”“Wow! You’re a genius! HAHAHA! I’m going to install the game in my laptop.” Miki quickly stood up to get her laptop in her room. Maki just smiled and counted inwardly. She just counted up to 34 when the door of her room opened and Miki peeked in.“Ano… where’s the cd?”“Hitomi has it.”“Miki are you alright?”“I HATE THIS DAY!!!!”……………..Miki released her frustrations via ‘Counter-Strike’. She played one-on-one with Risa who was on-line at that time. Amazingly, Miki scored better than her even though she’s not good with this game. She formulated her own theory that her frustrations were the ones responsible for her sudden improvement in the game. She made it a point to play ‘Counter-Strike’ ONLY when she’s angry or frustrated. She placed her books and open notebooks beside her so when her mom checked her secretly, she will just think that she’s doing her assignment or project.Maki removed from her bag her notebooks to read some notes for tomorrow’s lesson. As she got them, the small reddish book fell to the ground. She picked it up and decided to do the advance reading, later in the evening. It was written around the 16th century; the time when the Tokugawa Shogunate was established. It was also the period where Hironori Kamei was established as a daimyo according to the game. She started reading it to gain some more information about the game, ‘Maiden’s Curse’.……………..A girl was walking all alone in the dark street; a faint light from the moon was not enough to see the path ahead of her. She was walking very fast, fear and anxiety was setting in. She was always doing this night trip before; going to the 24-hour convenient store to buy some midnight snacks, but this time, it was different. She didn’t know whether it’s because of the eerie feeling that the environment was giving off or it’s because of the game she played before which makes her hairs rise up. “Risa told us about perceptive reality. She explained that it tends to make a person think that what he or she has seen in the game is actually happening in real life.” “It’s just my imagination… it’s just my imagination…. It’s just my imagination…” Miki repeated over and over again. She was now feeling somewhat regretful for buying her midnight snacks. She wished her mom didn’t give her money so that she will have a reason not to go out late at night, all alone. She strolled quickly but quietly along the street when she heard something or someone following her. She could hear her heart beating very fast when she learned that whoever was following her, was not alone. She could see the corner of the street. One last turn and she would see her house. She looked at the convex mirror on the corner and noticed that it’s somehow broken. She saw a shadow pass behind her reflection but when she turned around, four angry-looking Rottweilers were following her. Then it hit her. She remembered seeing wolves before pausing the game earlier in their school. She immediately called her sister through her cell phone.“Hi nee-san!”“Miki? Where the heck are you? You didn’t lock the door! I’m sensing something… not good. Go home quickly!”“Ano sa,” Miki started. She looked nervously at the dogs in front of her. “I didn’t die in the game earlier right?”Maki hesitated to answer first. She tried to recall what happened in the computer room earlier. “If I remember it correctly, you picked up a mirror that has a polished back… and then there were wolves in the reflection. Why? Is something wrong?”“NO, I just asked where I’m going to start playing again.” Miki lied.“You were on the shrine. Hayaku! And besides, we’re hungry.”“Hai, ja!”“Kiotsukete.” Miki turned off her cell phone. The dogs were still there; their saliva falling from their mouths while looking at her intensely as if they were going to eat her alive. “So, it’s confirmed. I didn’t die in the game. But… if this were done by a psychotic game developer, these dogs may be trained dogs! A chance that it’s just a freak coincidence is… 1 is to 100. It can’t be… Impossible… but if it’s cursed…” Miki’s thoughts were distracted when the dogs started barking at her. Miki stepped back a little but the dogs walked forward towards her. Miki turned around and ran towards the corner. She wanted to scream so somebody would come and help her but her voice was not cooperating at that time. She might not reach their house for the dogs were fast runners. As she turned towards the corner, a shadowy figure appeared in her face halting her chance to outrun the dogs. The Rottweilers jumped at her, scratched her face and bit different parts of her body. Miki tried to scream but one of the dogs bit her mouth. Her lips were taken off from her face. Miki’s clothes were torn apart, limbs were eaten out. As Miki’s consciousness was fading away, she can see a snake-like sceptre on the figure’s hand. It’s producing a ‘Rattlesnake’ sound as she swayed it, back and forth. She totally lost consciousness as soon as the sceptre touched her left arm.……………… “Where is she? She’s been out for too long.” Maki paced back and forth in their living room as she waited in vain for Miki to come back.“Maki, is Miki already here? She’s been out for almost half an hour.”“Not yet mom… I’ll go out and look for her.” Maki quickly got her sweater and went out of their door. “And besides… I don’t like what I’m feeling right now.” The cold breeze of the night welcomed Maki as she went out of their house. The moon was nearly hiding behind the dark clouds and the lamp post near the corner was broken the night before. She tried to see against the vast darkness whether there was someone walking towards the direction of their house. She saw a moving person near the corner of their street. “Miki is that you?” Maki said in a loud voice but not enough to wake the sleeping neighbours.“Mom, can you give me a light?” Maki called back to her mom. The shadow did not vanish in that corner. Maki’s heart started beating fast. She saw huge dogs behind the figure. She remembered what she had seen before Miki turned off the computer earlier in the computer room.“Miki is that you? That’s not funny!” Maki opened their gate to take a closer look. Her mom called her back and gave her a large flashlight. Maki took a one last look at the figure ahead of her. She then focused the light in that direction but, the shadow and the dogs were gone. She looked at the floor and noticed some streaks of blood. “Oh no… Please… I hope it’s not a person… Please, don’t let anything bad to happen to my sister..” Maki walked slowly towards the corner. She took a deep breath before turning and saw a girl’s corpse lying on the ground. The face of the girl was dismantled. The flesh of her body was eaten out from her, limbs torn apart.“Miki!!!” Maki rushed towards her sister. She was about to hug her but a hand stopped her from doing that.“Don’t do it. This is a crime scene. Let’s wait for the police.” Maki wailed loudly as she hugged her teary eyed step-mom tightly. As she cried, she admired her mother for her courage in this incident. She needed her comfort right now, a mother’s strength to face the loss of someone really important in her life.…………..“Maki? What happened to your voice?” Hitomi asked sleepily. It’s almost 1 in the morning. Hitomi was awakened by the sound of her ring tone. The last time she heard her best friend with a husky voice like this was the time when she cried for long hours over her failed attempt to bag the gold medal in an interschool competition when they were in grade 6.“Miki….”“Why? Did the two of you fight again? What is it this time?”“She’s dead…” Maki vaguely said before bursting again into tears. Hitomi was stunned. If her guess’ was right, it must be the ‘killer’ that did this.“I’ll go there right now. Wait for me. Don’t try to do anything stupid.”“I saw something… it was her… I’m sure of it.
